On June 26th 2015, the United States Supreme Court made a legendary ruling stating that same-sex couples have the right to marry in the United States of America. States can no longer prevent or not recognize same sex unions with this decision. This allows same sex couples to now have the same benefits as other marriages. For the land of the free, this is very historic time where rights and freedoms of more Americans are being issued.

I understand the other sides arrangements stating its not natural or not apart of their religious beliefs. The problem with those arguments is that there is the separation of church and state and the freedom of religion. While religion does play apart in how many people where morally taught right from wrong, it should not be the premise of telling others how to live their lives. Religion should be about your personal beliefs and not forcing what you think onto others. As for it not being natural, while they might not be able to procreate the same way, same sex couples love their children just the same. Marriage should not be based solely on the ability of having children because so many children only have a single parent or were given up for adoption or there are people that can not have children at all. Allowing couples that truly love each other to have a family will allow more children to be brought up in a loving caring family.

America unfortunately has a large problem with social ignorance. It is this ignorance that allows many Americans to walk around thinking they are superior to others just based off their religious beliefs. America was originally founded as a place to avoid the Church of England which was going after individuals because they were apart of a different religion. There is a reason why America has the separation of church and state, so that anyone of any faith can live here peacefully and find true happiness.

Even though this law passed several weeks ago, couples are still being denied their license to marriage. County clerks in several southern states have said they can not issue a license because it is not apart of their beliefs. This is a clear case of contempt of court because their post is not of a religious one but that of a state official. If they can not abide by the law then they should not hold the position. However bigotry is paying off for some people that are getting paid thousands of dollars because they are preventing certain groups their rights. Hopefully one day this will decline and more people will see and understand that love is love and doesn’t have to be strictly with a man and woman.

One of my best friends is gay and I know it is who she is and don’t have to question it. She is not any less of a person or a friend because of it. I was very excited because now she could properly get married when she finds the person she wants to be with forever. She like many others deserve to be able to marry and have the same marriage benefits.

Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in the closing of the majority opinion “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.” It is the passing of laws like this that allow more Americans to be free and not feel inferior because of their own beliefs. Now only if more Americans were understanding and open to other people’s beliefs instead of being close minded. I think having someone you know that is gay that means alot to you would help more people see that there isn’t anything wrong with it.

Anyways here is the case and I suggest you read it sometime.
