AwesomeCon 2016

AwesomeCon finally arrived last weekend and sure enough I went this year. Now unlike in the past when I have gone for multiple days, I only attended on Sunday but I was not alone. This year I took two friends with me and all three of us dressed up in costume. I believe it was their first ComicCon ever and the fact they dressed up made it even more enjoyable and entertaining.

So it has been a few months since I have posted anything interesting or in an attempt to be intellectual. For the most part my second job has taken up a lot of time. I currently work 9-5:30 at one job and about 6pm-12am (sometimes 2am) at my other job. My life has become the real Work, Sleep, Eat routine. On my few days off and spare hours I have spent my time with close friends and working on a few side projects. Since I have not had time to work on all of the many posts and topics going through my head, I figured I would do a quick rant post. Buckle in… we are going all over the place in this one!

Not Your Average Comic

Remember a time when you didn’t have an iPhone or iPad when you were settled on the toilet for the long haul? Most people growing up with out these time distractions did not have the Internet at our finger tips so we had to improvise. Most people had a good book, puzzle, magazine, or worst case, the dreaded shampoo bottle to act as a diversion. For myself growing up I had a luxury item in my bathroom for when I needed it, a wonderful comic book titled “Calvin and Hobbes.”

Everything is Awesome… with the Lego Movie

Awesome Awesome Awesome! That is the best way to describe this movie. Not to give to much away but it has a wonderful script that has a real story that every person who has ever created anything with Legos will understand. The message is simple, have fun! Those of us who follow the directions vs. those of us who create amazing things from our imagination; the battle is constant and Lego knows its audience to show that battle. I expected a good movie more so targeted to children but I was wrong and I came out holding back tears because it is for master builders of all ages.

Cardboard Warfare

I have always loved the indie film groups that have made a name for themselves on YouTube, the series Cardboard Warfare is one of those beloved favorites. The group recently came out with another video and it is a following up with another World War II era looking video. The series mixes all of the childhood memories my generation has into something creative and visually beautiful. Our generation grew up playing with cardboard boxes thinking of them as different vehicles or ships to escape the rule of our parents.  We also heard about the tales of our grandparents and how they fought evil and were heroes battling those who want to do us harm. It was looking up to the greatest generation that lived and wanting to emulate that which they had done for us. I hope you enjoy this look back to how we imagined each of our childhood battles.

One of my favorite superheros is Batman. He is a normal guy that uses his brain and wit to fight crime therefore almost anyone can be Batman. Vine is a app on smartphones that lets you take 6 seconds worth of video and there is one person who I follow, his name is Batdad. He fights crime to protect his children and personally this is parenting done right. He is a great rolemodel for being a good father and doing things differently. Below is a compilation of some of his best vines and also a interview with Batdad explaining why he does it. Personally these videos are funny and creative and just another part of the stuff one finds on the internet.

Koopa Bros. TMNT

I absolutely love this video that mixes up two great franchises. It is a great mass-up of Mario Bros. and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Hidden gems like these on the internet can really make my day and it is a briliant idea. This video is so funny and I wont spoil anything but the characters they chose to play others is just so hilarious especially Luigi. I hope you enjoy this find because I surely did.

Lego Simpsons

Lego just announced that the Simpsons will be joining the world of Lego and as a fan of both the Simpsons and Lego I am very happy about this. Ever since Lego came out with Star Wars I wondered what else could be made into Legos. I really started to wonder why the Simpsons were not when they came out with the Spongebob sets. I love the Indiana Jones, Batman, Star Wars, and Marvel sets a lot and when I heard Simpsons were coming out I was ecstatic!

Star Crafts

In two recent posts now I have talked about how the internet is allowing for indie games, videos, and comics to really spread to the masses. One of my favorites that I have been following for a while is Star Crafts. This flash comic is based off of Starcraft and Starcraft 2. Since Saturday morning cartoons have pretty much lost all appeal, these short videos have brightened my mornings.

Recently the Simpsons, my beloved and favorite show of all time, has been making me upset and disappointed. Since about season 10 the quality of the show has gone down. However within the last 5 seasons I will say it has really sunk quickly and I don’t know how much longer they can keep it up. Last Sunday’s episode featured an opening scene of the Simpsons doing the Harlem Shake, A fad that has really gone way overboard allowing people to go full retard for a minute. I was highly disappointed in this move trying to lure in with the new and hip thing but the Simpsons for a longtime lead the way.

90’s Flashback

It is still hard to believe that the 90’s was 20 years ago now… that is to long and I miss my childhood. I played with pong and legos and had a gameboy fatboy. Pong was something my brother and I collected and you were always out side in the real social network, the playground. Anyways I just saw this video and I have to share it with you because it is awesome although it is a commercial for Internet Explorer I will let that go.

Humor, Movies / TV, Video

So I finally got around to watching the british comedy “The IT Crowd” and it is awesome. It is a nerdy comedy that really hits home with its humor and I enjoy all the easter-eggs. I can name plenty of new funny jokes but this is one of my favorites. Enjoy!
