AwesomeCon 2016

AwesomeCon finally arrived last weekend and sure enough I went this year. Now unlike in the past when I have gone for multiple days, I only attended on Sunday but I was not alone. This year I took two friends with me and all three of us dressed up in costume. I believe it was their first ComicCon ever and the fact they dressed up made it even more enjoyable and entertaining.

Rant

So it has been a few months since I have posted anything interesting or in an attempt to be intellectual. For the most part my second job has taken up a lot of time. I currently work 9-5:30 at one job and about 6pm-12am (sometimes 2am) at my other job. My life has become the real Work, Sleep, Eat routine. On my few days off and spare hours I have spent my time with close friends and working on a few side projects. Since I have not had time to work on all of the many posts and topics going through my head, I figured I would do a quick rant post. Buckle in… we are going all over the place in this one!

RIP THOR

This is one of the hardest days of my life so far. I have had to say goodbye to Thor, my buddy for almost 16 years. I personally have been down since it has happened and grateful for all of the fun and interesting memories he helped provide my family with. I will always remember him and these are only a few small glimpses into the many memories I will cherish.

The Workshop

Every person needs a space to themselves, a place that they can relax in, study, work on projects, and store and display things that represent them. This space has been apart of our homes for long time and takes on different names depending on the person for which it is created. Since I don’t have my own home yet I drastically needed a space to set up and store all my stuff. After looking at several different and unique storage ideas such as people creating a unique space within a truck, bus, and shipping containers I decided on a storage unit. I have now had my storage unit for about a year now and it is my workshop.

T-Minus 100 Days And Counting!

With 100 days till Christmas, I feel it is the perfect time to publish my Christmas and birthday wishlist for this year. Since my birthday is on the 27th of December, my wishlists are combined. Now Christmas is my favorite holiday; the spirit, the decorations, the good will to others, all of it makes it such a wonder time of the year. I will say I did wish my birthday was in the middle of the year like many others because they get to have birthday gifts in the middle of the year and Christmas gifts at the end of the year… Lucky Bastards!

YUM YUM IN MY TUM TUM

Food is the only medium in art that utilizes 4 of the five senses, taste, touch, sight, and smell. The best chefs know and play with all of these senses to give the customer a really wonderful experience. The food and restaurants don’t have to be very expensive or well known to be wonderful and bring up wonderful memories. With that being said my best friend, Naeroby Nunez, is a true artist and a wonderful chef. Naeroby is currently a sous chef at 1789, a classic American restaurant in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, DC.

Already 10 Years Later

There are many times where I think back to fond memories in high school where I think of close friends or things that happened. These memories are sometimes so vivid that I feel like they are fresh and just occurred the day before. It is hard to imagine how ever that these memories are 10 years old or even older. I was able to reminisce many of these memories and even several I completely forgot about a few weeks ago with old friends. It really is hard to imagine that over 10 years ago, I graduated from high school and even more hard to imagine that we have now had our 10 year high school reunion weekend. Yes, you read that correctly, Weekend!!! A three hour small gathering is not long enough to catch up with old friends and find out what everyone is up to these days. So our high school reunion committee made it into a small weekend event. A good choice if you ask me because picking a date when everyone is free and able to attend is difficult especially at our age when so many of our friends are getting married and money is still a major factor in plans.

Cheers to the Scheers

On July 25th, 2015 in a historic train station in Virginia, my brother set forth on a journey with the love of his life. Sarah and my younger brother were married and I couldn’t be happier for them. I had the honor of standing by my brothers side as his best man and the whole thing went without a hitch. From what I could tell the two of them were not nervous about if the other was the one; instead they were excited and ready to be together.

2378 Miles

Last year I did not really have the time or money to go on a trip just for my self. I did want to go to Vegas or camping somewhere however with work and classes getting in the way I had to crap those plans. This year I wanted to make it more about myself and what I wanted to do. It is safe to say I have alot more going on this year than I have in prior years. I have two weddings to go to this year, one of which is my brothers, and classes and work are taking up more of my time. One big event I really wanted to attend was my best friend Siera’s college graduation on Sunday May 3… in Hancock Michigan. That’s right, back to da UP. I must say timing was on my side because her graduation also landed on the best weekend for nerds this year, May 2. I call it the best weekend for nerds because of everything that was going on: Avengers Age of Ultron came out on Friday May 1, Free Comic Book day was on Saturday May 2, and Monday May 4 is ofcourse Star Wars Day. I decided that to make it a real vacation was to stop and stay in Chicago for all the fun events for each of these days. Best decision ever!

Fond Memories

1380103_10201061181384916_2097038545_n

I am sorry to say that my step-grandfather, Veikko, passed away on Saturday, August 30th, 2014. Even though he was technically my step-grandfather, he had always been around since I can remember and in my eyes he was my grandfather as much as my other grandfather, Pentti. Personally this is very hard for me because he was someone we visited regularly and with very fond memories of. Some of my earliest memories are of being back in Finland on the farm just southeast of Lahti in a small place called Hollala.

Springfieldians rejoice for Marathon

20140725-012126-4886222.jpg

OMG OMG OMG it is almost here; the longest marathon in history (TV history that is!)! In a true Springfieldian manner, the longest marathon is not one of running but of sitting on the sofa and watching TV and drinking a Duff. The Simpsons will air on FXX in chronological order all 25 seasons. That is 552 episodes and the Simpsons Movie will be included in the marathon and also will air chronologically after episode No. 400. The marathon begins at 10 AM ET on August 21 and ends at midnight ET on September 1; 12 glorious days!

Apartment or Tiny House?

So as I grow older, more questions are asked about what my future is going to be like. I am still unsure of many things in my life such as job, where I want to settle down, and how will I make money. Two things are certain, I want to travel and I want a family. There is still a lot in this world I want to experience and I don’t want to do it alone. In the mean time I am stressed about the future path because of my past still haunting me.

The Joys of Writer’s Block

One thing I have faced recently has been the strong wall of writer’s block. It has been a while since I have posted any new story or poem and it isn’t for the lack of trying. Every time I try and write, I draw a blank or don’t know where to go. Because of this I have deleted whole paragraphs because they didn’t flow or fit with what I wanted to speak about. Currently I have three large posts I have been working on, one of which for almost six months.

A Nerds Dream Weekend

This weekend is one any Nerd would enjoy, not only did Free Comic Book Day fall on this weekend but the following day was May 4th. For those of you who may not know May 4th is also known as May the Fourth Be with You in reference to Star Wars. There is also Revenge of the Fifth with conveniently and ironically lands on Monday. Also on May 4th, a very special episode of the Simpsons aired where they were all Legos. This weekend was a dream for me because I really let myself go and Geeked out all weekend.

My collection.

One of my New Years resolutions for this year was to start collection something. I have been playing World of Warcraft for a long time and put a lot of energy and money into the game for achievements. Along with those achievements are rare and unique mounts and titles that have taken a long time to acquire and/or a lot of money to unlock. The same goes with the Simpsons Tapped Out game. I have spent a lot more money thank I care to admit on these two games but after looking back I would say I have spent over $3000 on just those two games. Yes I know a waste of money and I will agree. The biggest problem with these two collections is that it is all virtual, I can not sell them later in life and if the game no longer supported one day then good bye.

Blood Donations

Well a large snow storm hit the DC area causing closures of schools and government and cancellations of many events and activities. Many people do not realize that blood shortages are common during storms because blood drives are canceled and donators can’t make it to the donor services centers. Over the years when there have been disastrous storms, blood stores run dangerously low and blood banks have to ration. I would be devastated if I had to have emergency surgery and there was not enough blood to go around .

2015-Ford-F150

The DC Auto show was in town last week and of course with my busy schedule, I couldn’t find a moment to go. The real reason why I wanted to go this year was of course the display of the new 2015 F150. According to Ford’s website, the new design would have been at the show but the shows website along with several people I know said that it wasn’t there or they couldn’t find it. That alone made me not stress to much about missing the show but this post is about the beautiful and new F150.
