AwesomeCon 2016

AwesomeCon finally arrived last weekend and sure enough I went this year. Now unlike in the past when I have gone for multiple days, I only attended on Sunday but I was not alone. This year I took two friends with me and all three of us dressed up in costume. I believe it was their first ComicCon ever and the fact they dressed up made it even more enjoyable and entertaining.

💀💩L

So… Deadpool! One of my all time favorite comic book characters. I started reading comics that featured him back around 1995 and really became a fan of him in 1997 when he had his own series. He is the epitome of what you really want out of a comic. The merc with a mouth is notorious for breaking the 4th wall in comics. If you don’t know what the fourth wall is, it is the wall between the audience and the story, it is what lets us watch things unfold. Well Deadpool knows he is in a comic and really goes wild within the stories referencing past comics, other characters, pop culture, and even events from comics from different comic universes such as Batman. That with additional violence, constant jokes, sexy moments, and Tacos, who can’t help but love this sexy Canadian.

My Movie Collection

Anyone who has ever stepped inside my workshop or home would instantly notice that I have two collections. The first being my Lego minifigure collection and some of the awesome models that go along with them and the second being my movie collection. Now I have talked about my Lego collection quite often but I have not really spoken of my movie collection. Now from time to time I will compose a blog posting about a movie, typically amazing movies that I am dying to own and watch again and again. Continue reading

Next Stop Ares

800px-Mars_23_aug_2003_hubble

Ares, Sol IV, Mars… It goes by many names (much like Earth, Gaia, Terra, or Sol III) but it has remained one of the main focuses when we look to the stars. Why has Mars been on our minds for so long? Will we ever be able to follow Hollywood and actually visit Mars in our lifetimes? Can we seriously see a future and clear distinction between Terrans and Martians? Mars is the fourth planet in our solar system and the only other planet that comes within the habitability zone. The other planets and moons are potentially to dangerous and extreme for us to visit let alone settle. Earth’s Moon, Jupiter’s moon Titan, and a few others could one day be home for humans but the logical choice is Mars.

LLAP

This past weekend we said goodbye to a person I looked up to for a long time. Leonard Nimoy  passed away on the morning of Febuary 27th. He was a cultural icon for many by taking on the role as Spock in the tv show Star Trek. While Star Trek only lasted for 3 season it helped spark the imagination of many and open up the thoughts of the future and taking care of the needs of the many. Gene Rodenberry, the creator of Star Trek, created a future where people of all races and creeds, genders and even worlds would be able to work together. Their goals of exploration and science over greed and self indulgence helped many nerds, including myself, to want to become scientists and care for the future of man-kind.

The Awesome Pixar Theory

The other night I was kind of bored and wanted a good movie to watch. After looking through all of dvds (if you have seen my collection you know I have a decent choice) and I chose a movie that doesn’t get old and is very very good, Incredibles. Pixar has made many movies and sequels and I am still trying to figure out why the Incredibles has yet to see a sequel. So while I was watching it I did altitude research on IMDb and then online. I randomly stumbled on something interesting, an article talking about fan theories to Pixar movies the main one called the Pixar theory by Jon Negroni.

RIP FUNNY MAN!

Death is inevitable but it is always hard when it happens to someone good. On August 11th 2014, Robin Williams committed suicide. Robin was a good man, simple as that but he had his troubles, he had suffered from addictions and the early stages of Parkinson’s. If anyone used their fame to help others it was Robin and he did it in such a manner that not everyone knew.

An Epic Galactic Tale

So my Thursday ended up to be a very shitty and stressful day. Work was a real pain and everything kept on failing me from computer issues to forgetting where I put documents for a short while. I had a bad day (Friday didn’t end up any better) and I needed something to take my mind off things, even if it was just for a few hours. As the huge nerd that I am, I was looking forward to seeing the newest addition to the Marvel movie universe. Guardians of the Galaxy came out on the day I needed a perk the most.

San Diego Comic – Con 2014 is over and there was so much awesome swag that has been coming up on eBay from it. I wish I could have gone this year but hopefully next year I can head out there and really enjoy myself. SourceFed has done a wonderful job this year showing off all of the awesome collectables and gear. The costumes where also really amazing this year. Halo and Legend of Zelda had some awesome trailers released.

Springfieldians rejoice for Marathon

20140725-012126-4886222.jpg

OMG OMG OMG it is almost here; the longest marathon in history (TV history that is!)! In a true Springfieldian manner, the longest marathon is not one of running but of sitting on the sofa and watching TV and drinking a Duff. The Simpsons will air on FXX in chronological order all 25 seasons. That is 552 episodes and the Simpsons Movie will be included in the marathon and also will air chronologically after episode No. 400. The marathon begins at 10 AM ET on August 21 and ends at midnight ET on September 1; 12 glorious days!

A Nerds Dream Weekend

This weekend is one any Nerd would enjoy, not only did Free Comic Book Day fall on this weekend but the following day was May 4th. For those of you who may not know May 4th is also known as May the Fourth Be with You in reference to Star Wars. There is also Revenge of the Fifth with conveniently and ironically lands on Monday. Also on May 4th, a very special episode of the Simpsons aired where they were all Legos. This weekend was a dream for me because I really let myself go and Geeked out all weekend.

My collection.

One of my New Years resolutions for this year was to start collection something. I have been playing World of Warcraft for a long time and put a lot of energy and money into the game for achievements. Along with those achievements are rare and unique mounts and titles that have taken a long time to acquire and/or a lot of money to unlock. The same goes with the Simpsons Tapped Out game. I have spent a lot more money thank I care to admit on these two games but after looking back I would say I have spent over $3000 on just those two games. Yes I know a waste of money and I will agree. The biggest problem with these two collections is that it is all virtual, I can not sell them later in life and if the game no longer supported one day then good bye.

AwesomeCon 2014

20140420-220852.jpg
This weekend AwesomeCon was held in DC and since I have never had the chance or availability to attend any Con except via online such as BlizzCon or ComicCon in LA. I was hoping to find people to go with since I had never been to one before and I was honestly a little nervous. This was the second year of this con and already it had a lot of different panels to choose from and even a nerdy speed dating which I thought was interesting. Since my schedule was already packed I really had to pick and choose what I saw and when.

And that’s how we met the Mother.

For the past nine years I have looked forward to a show that had a creative way to tell a love story, backwards. How I Met Your Mother may seem like another sitcom but it has a deeper sense of self to it. We followed a young Ted Mosby from his mid to late 20’s to find the woman of his dreams. With all of the ups and downs one thing was certain, he will eventually met her.

Lego Simpsons Couch Gag

I just had to share this because it is a wonderful mix of two of my favorite things, This Simpsons and Legos. With the new Simpsons Legos being released and the success of the Lego Movie, this fan made couch gag is a welcome sight. Ofcourse there will be a couch gag for Legos when the Lego Simpsons episode airs in May but this is a prelude to that wonderful mix. I hope you enjoy as much as I did!

An Unexpected Long Weekend

And DC Metro area was struck with yet another snow storm. This one dumped a solid 6 inches on Monday meaning everything was closed and I had an extra day to relax and regroup from a very stressful week at work. Someone please tell the CIA to stop messing with their weather control machine… I am getting sick of these one day 60 degree weather and next is snowing…

Everything is Awesome… with the Lego Movie

The-LEGO-Movie-2014-Poster
Awesome Awesome Awesome! That is the best way to describe this movie. Not to give to much away but it has a wonderful script that has a real story that every person who has ever created anything with Legos will understand. The message is simple, have fun! Those of us who follow the directions vs. those of us who create amazing things from our imagination; the battle is constant and Lego knows its audience to show that battle. I expected a good movie more so targeted to children but I was wrong and I came out holding back tears because it is for master builders of all ages.
